Work Experience

Environment Systems

General IT support for the company including setting up new computers, user support such as helping with office programs, server management including backups, user accounts, etc. Specialist it systems creation such as an MS Access database to read in and store map meta data, Excel workbooks to assist in collecting meta data. Maintaining the company website, uploading new articles making sure everything was up to date.

Welsh Dyslexia Project

Built contacts/company Access database that allowed the user to create filtered list by building the SQL for them and then presented them with ways to use this data such as bulk e-mails, also helped out with general IT support.

Map Analysis

As the Data Analyst for this company I worked primarily with Excel, Access and SPSS to process data for various projects. This involved setting up databases within Access and creating interfaces within Excel using Visual Basic/VBA. These interfaces summarised the data and created charts; this involved creating very complex formulae. I used SPSS to extract data aggregates from larger datasets that could then be imported into Access/Excel for further analysis, this involved creating variables and running checks to ensure data continuity. I used Manifold (a desktop GIS program) to integrate map creation into Excel to help automate the map creation process. I worked as part of a team, and my role was generally to prepare data for others to use. This meant I often had to go through what was the best format for the data to make the job of my colleagues easier, this was best done face to face in front of their computer.

Ifor Williams Trailers

Sandwich year as part of Computer Science Degree, working full time. Set up new computers and printers on the company network, fixed computers, set up new users, procedures and documentation creation, research projects, e-mail management, Access database maintenance, face to face user assistance and remote assistance. I worked as part of a team and alone on a set of tasks that I had to prioritise and organize myself.

Farm Business

Helping on my family farm – various duties including – helping at lambing, harvest and other seasonal activities; maintaining office computer system Other Experience Built computers for myself and friends from the basic components, setup a network in my parent’s house, helped installed rack servers with hard drive raid arrays.

Personal

I play regular games of airsoft at my local paintball site, which involves lots of teamwork and quick organisation. I like to play badminton, squash, tennis and pool whenever I can. I am an avid cyclist. I enjoy excellent health and have never suffered from a serious illness.
